City Council approves millions in construction contracts and affordable housing

The largest contract is for improvements and repairs for parks and recreation and other city departments.

The San Antonio City Council approved $1.97 million in contracts for the construction and restoration of city properties as well as $1.65 million in funding for affordable housing projects in its March 19 meeting.

The largest of the construction contracts is a three-year contract with a Houston firm for new fencing and as-needed repairs for parks and recreation and other city departments.

The complete list of awarded construction and restoration contracts is as follows.

• A three-year contract with Houston-based NBM Development, Inc. for new fencing and as-needed repairs for Parks and Recreation and other city departments totaling up to an estimated $499,715.50. These funds will come out of each department’s budget.

• A $403,892.75 contract to a company referred to as Industrial Construction Co. for improvements to Martin Luther King Plaza, including paving and landscaping. These funds will come from the 2017 General Obligation Bond Program. It will also appropriate $40,250 for tree canopy preservation and mitigation at the plaza.

• A $335,884.16 contract with Belt Built Contracting LLC, based in Crofton, Maryland and San Antonio, for improvements to Dawson Park under a 2017 bond fund.

• Two contracts, both amounting to $290,797, to NBM Development, Inc. for sidewalk repairs under the 2020-2021 task order contract of the Neighborhood Access and Mobility Program and Infrastructure Management Program.

• A task order to contract with local general contractor Con-Cor Inc. for $129,675.34 for renovations at the Brook Hollow Branch Library.

Additionally, the City Council passed more than $1.6 million in housing projects.

The City Council’s largest award was $950,000 to Merced Housing Texas for the rehabilitation of 10 owner-occupied housing units under the Community Development Block Grant from the 2020 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Action Plan and Budget.

Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio, Inc. was awarded up to $700,000 for the development of 14 infill, ownership housing units in areas throughout the city under the U.S. HUD Action Plan and Budget.
